Purpose
Research consistently demonstrates that going out in a boat and not wearing a lifejacket is the single most important boating safety issue which results in far too many easily preventable drownings every year. In almost 90% of fatal boating incidents the victim was not wearing a PFD or lifejacket.
Tremendous improvements have been made in the design of comfortable personal flotation devices. Professional mariners and casual recreational boaters alike are coming on board the growing movement to make wearing a PFD (or lifejacket or survival suit) as natural as buckling up a seatbelt or making sure you have your sunglasses with you.

This website is a project supported by The Cook-Rees Memorial Fund For Water Search And Safety, a Canadian charitable organization established in 1998 by singer/composer Loreena McKennitt after the loss of her fiancé Ron Rees, his brother Rick and friend Greg Cook in a sailing incident.
